CapBar

Privacy

Last updated 30 August 2026.

CapBar is a menu bar time tracker for Mac. It does not require an account and does not include third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.

The short version: We do not collect personal data, and we do not sell data. What the app remembers stays on your Mac and, if iCloud is on, within your Apple ID.

Who’s responsible

CapBar is made by Andreas Jonsson, based in Denmark. For privacy questions, write to hello@capbar.app.

What the app stores

The app stores projects (name, weekly cap, order, archive state), time sessions (when you started and stopped), and preferences (weekly budget, week start, auto-pause, launch at login). An Analytics view in the app is derived from those sessions — it is not a third-party tracker.

That data lives on the Mac. If iCloud is on, projects, tracked minutes, and preferences sync with the iCloud account signed in on this Mac.

I cannot see this data. There is no CapBar server.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, CapBar can show local alerts when a timed block ends or a timer auto-pauses. Those notifications are created on the Mac. Nothing is sent to a CapBar server — there isn’t one.

Purchases

CapBar is a 14-day trial, then a one-time unlock. The payment goes through Apple. We never see your card details.

What we don’t collect

No name, email, location, contacts, or usage analytics. No advertising and no tracking. There is no CapBar account.

Sharing

We do not share user data with third parties. We do not sell data. There are no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs in the app.

Apple provides the App Store, iCloud, and notifications. Apple’s privacy policy covers Apple’s services.

Retention and deletion

Data stays as long as the app is installed, and as long as a copy remains in iCloud.

Delete the app to clear what is on the Mac. To clear the iCloud copy, turn off iCloud for CapBar or delete the app’s iCloud data in Apple’s settings.

If you write to hello@capbar.app asking us to delete data, we will confirm — there is nothing on a CapBar server to erase.

Your rights

Under GDPR you can ask to see, correct, delete, or receive a copy of personal data, and you can object to certain uses. Because we do not collect personal data, there is nothing for us to export from a server. You can also complain to your local data protection authority — in Denmark, that is Datatilsynet.

Children

CapBar is not directed at children. We do not collect personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top.
